Aims and objectives

The Club aims to provide education and training and promote the appreciation of the public in the visual arts.

It does this through its studio facilities, workshops, exhibitions and other activities, which all contribute in promoting high standards and wider participation in the visual arts. There is no bar to joining the Club, and although there is no regular formal tuition there is a tradition among members of encouraging and promoting talent.

The Club also produces a regular Newsletter with information on forthcoming events, etc.

Origins

The North of England Art Club (NoEAC) was established in 1977 by former members of the Newcastle Society of Artists, an art club which traced its origins to the early years of the 19th century and had many illustrious members including the great Victorian painter, J. W. Carmichael.

The new club moved to the 5th Floor of Bolbec Hall, into a studio furnished and equipped, in part, with the help of local businesses.

In 1982, the year NoEAC achieved Charitable status, the remaining members of the Newcastle Society amalgamated with the North of England Art Club and, in so doing, ensured the continuing existence of a club which contributed significantly to the arts scene in the area throughout its history.

Under the early leadership of Ross Hickling and Mick Mortimer (the current Life President) NoEAC has continued to maintain high standards and quality in art.
